Flowers, Fireworks & Fun at Shrewsbury Flower Show

6th August 2014

Organisers of the Shrewsbury Flower Show are busy preparing for what will be a fantastic event in Shrewsbury in just a few days time. The World's longest running flower show takes place on 8th & 9th August. The 2014 Show commemorates the centenary of the 1914 'Show That Never Was', which was cancelled owing to the start of The Great War.

The Shropshire Horticultural Society, a hundred years on, is planning to respectfully mark the 1914 centenary as a special tribute and say the Show will have an air of the Edwardian period about it. "We have taken inspiration from the Society's archives, and we are hoping to theme the Floral Marquees and Show Gardens with elements and inspiration from the period."

The Shrewsbury Flower Show is an ideal family day out. In the main area there is all day entertainment from show jumping, to heart stopping high flying trapeze artists, impressive performances of agility by Whitchurch Dog Display Team and fun from Dingle Fingle in his comedy car. New to the 2014 show is the Inspiration Marquee which will encourage children and adults alike to think of garden planting and the impact on our future environment.

Celebrity chef, Tom Kerridge will be in the Foodhall alongside Marcus Bean and horticultural expert Pippa Greenwood will be sharing gardening tips and advice. The 'Opera Boys', two of the UK's finest classically trained young tenors, will be taking to the stage in the Arena on Friday night. These talented, versatile vocalists deliver a spectacular show ranging from opera to pop, and everything in between.

On Saturday night the Quarry will be rocking with the sound of bagpipes as the Red Hot Chilli Pipers take to the stage with their unique fusion of rocked up Bagpipes and clever covers of popular songs from all genres.
